I have a feeling in the early stages of this newsletter to emphasize that there is nothing special about me, the author of this newsletter. Conversing with God, our own expanded Self, is everyone’s birthright. We do it every day.
Fortunately for us, the idea of having such a conversation is already in the cultural zeitgeist thanks to Neale Donald Walsch. As a teenager in the 1990s, his Conversations With God series of books were one of the first to broaden my recognition of what God is and what our relationship with Her might be.
Still, I can imagine some questioning this idea of a conversation with the Divine. From the basis of some nondual teachings, one might even ask, “Who is talking to whom?”
The Christian tradition says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” God, the Conversation and the Conversationalist, from the start.
If you feel a draw to practice conversing with your own Heart in writing and cultivate it as a conversation with words, then I hope that this article will offer something for you. But perhaps it’s best if I am not the one to explain it…
Dear Beloved. Thank You so much for revealing what You are and what I am more and more each day. May I ask You a question?
Of course, My love.
I am writing an article about Sacred Conversation with You. What, if anything, would You offer about this process?
First, let us expand on the word ‘Sacred’. I know what you intend here: that by stating it in this way, it may serve to restore that feeling of holiness that you yourself have only just recovered and of which you are in protection. Perhaps at another time, we can go dive into that feeling of protection.
The Conversation with your Self is Sacred, but so is every conversation, such as the one between your tongue and the coffee you are drinking, your child and his backpack for school, the wind and the tree branches, and the ocean with the shore. It is all Sacred. So call it Sacred if you wish, but do not place it above and beyond every other moment.
From this simple ‘everyday sacred’ you can begin. One does not have to be in a special state. No meditation, chanting, or prayer needs to be performed. No ceremony, decorum, or formality needs to be adopted.
Just as with any conversation, begin by meeting Me where you are. Say whatever is here in your heart, and then listen. Feel.
Receive any impression, feeling, or words that come. You will be able to feel their quality. Throw nothing out and allow what comes to refine and clarify, or fall away on its own. It is all Me speaking, whether it is of a latent feeling of unworthiness or of the most mind-expanding wisdom. Your innate sense of what is True is your radio tuner into conversation with the Wholeness of Me. The words will ring clear in your body.
Even as you write these words from Me, you are tuning ever more finely. The first words that you write are not necessarily the words that are settled upon. Editing is tuning. Allow My response in you to bloom and evolve into its fullness.
There is an integral feeling to being in Conversation with You that I wonder if You can say more about. It is difficult to describe: it is me, but not me at the same time…
Being in Conversation with your Self will feel natural. What you receive in your Conversation with God will feel essentially like you: the most kind and sober and holistic aspect of you.
You are the Conversationalist and the Conversation, to paraphrase what you wrote earlier. What I have to say will appear within you through the elements of your life experience: your feelings, your language and vocabulary, your cultural references and images. I am the vibration that becomes the feeling that becomes the images and the words: the Nature and the Patterns.
You are always, at all times, in My Heart, as I am in yours.
Thank You so much. For everything.
